If you are anything like us, we love the DC food scene and hit up as many of the restaurants making the “must try lists” as we can.  With that pairs nicely our love of wine (pun intended) and many of these establishments are increasingly putting a focus on ways to functionally store wine and even make their collection a focal point.  So we thought we would make the first installment of the Unfinished Basement Series around all things wine and how you can get the same result in your home!

There are many items to consider when building a wine cellar – building materials (wood type, stone features, door, insulation preference?) climate control options,  storage space (how many bottles will your collection house?), entertainment space (will you be hosting parties? need counter space?) and overall bottle management to name few.  Adding a wine cellar to a buried basement is a natural fit because a room that sits below the surface of your yard will automatically be cooler than the higher rooms of your home.
